The HotSpot Health Physics codes are used by the Arms Control Center to provide a fast evaluation of incidents involving radioactive material. The software is also used for safety-analysis of facilities handling nuclear material. HotSpot codes are a first-order approximation of the radiation effects associated with the atmospheric release of radioactive materials. The Arms Control Center is currently working on a series of tutorials on the HotSpot Health Physics Codes and this is an introductory one.
